What is the proper way or balance with health concerns in order to be more productive? This is the question that comes to mind with considering what can be trivial when comes dieting and having the energy to perform at a level that feels fun, challenging, and worthwhile.
Unmistakably, we come to this conclusion when the afternoon hours roll around and wonder if the coffee or the jug of water comes first. The irony, being this decision being part of that balance we require to be successful.
Nowadays, we perform a lot of work in front a computer, typically sitting down(though I see this changing as health becomes more prevalent in our minds and culture). If we were to build a building, and say this building was our body, we would want to be strong enough to ward off any dangers. Now, also add in that this building takes time to build and costs money to complete. How do we organize these things so that it becomes habit? So that the next building we build is as strong as the previous one.
This places a strong influence on how we make decisions about diet and future benefits. After reading article, after article, brochure after brochure, do we not just want a simple answer without the costs. Work is a strange fig, and if anything work should probably not be work, work should be play. We know that if work becomes play, we perform better. If work is turned into play more, we do less fiddling with our smartphone to record our next meal, just find out that we went over our sugar goal again.
The most interesting concept to this, is the psyche (“is the totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious; In psychoanalysis and other forms of depth psychology, the psyche refers to the forces in an individual that influence thought, behavior and personality.” from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psyche_%28psychology%29 ) , our mind, soul (in the etymological sense and meaning), and how important this is to maintain. I mean if we are stressed or sad, we may find it more difficult to perform at a level we are satisfied with. Though everyone’s body is somewhat different and our biology’s may not all exactly run the same.
Now, admittedly this was approached in a video game called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, where the character/protagonist the player played as had additional gauge for monitoring psyche (Psych Gauge). If his psyche level was low, a noticeable decrease in performance is shown. Though, the gamer is given the ability to contact the character via codec in the game that provides advice and hints for improving psyche.
View the video below for a little preview (a little lengthy though, very thoughtful of the developers and designers) of how the game ingeniously involves this into the gameplay.
