What is worthwhile when buying a new gadget, toy, or some new technology? To truly display what we as an human species value in standards and requirements, places a large emphasis on how we perceive our software, gadgets, applications to work. I once was told in ongoing tech job search,
“live at a higher standard, find a higher self.”
This someone did not make me change my values when it came to standards, my perception was that was default to any placement I have working in fast moving technological world.
To me it appeared to excel in a career, especially technology, you had to believe your above the highest standards and more. Though, with some time this became a brief truth, that I too often did not analyze or know. Now I think what that statement means is to be more than just an person in a field or job, though to be a representative, a teacher, a community member. Most importantly, someone that people can count on.
With all the worldly things, after awhile displays a sensation that our goals may not be aligned with our standards in a world view, and this in my opinion should be salient, vivid, and purposeful so we know we are accountable for our own design.
This became evident when I did my first presentation to the tech community related to JavaScript. My goal was really to create something of value for everyone, and if I did not, I could learn from it and try to do better the next time. Though with limited feedback, I felt a little better about my approach to sharing knowledge and being a community member. Sometimes, just stepping away from the world and finding a sense of belonging is all we need to give us a reality check now and then.
